Minister of State for Youth Devt. Engages ACOMORAN Ahead of CNG Motorcycle Empowerment Programme Launch

The Minister of State for Youth Development, Engr. Ayodele Olawande, in preparation for the launch of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Motorcycle Empowerment Programme for youth in the informal sector, scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st, made a significant consultative visit earlier today to the secretariat of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN).

The visit, accompanied by key figures such as the Director General of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, marked a crucial step in the engagement process with stakeholders in the transportation sector.

The purpose of the meeting with ACOMORAN was to introduce and discuss the impending launch of the first phase of the CNG Motorcycle Empowerment Programme.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Development, aims to provide 2,000 CNG-powered motorcycles to young Nigerians working within the transportation sector.

Designed to ease the economic burden on tricycle riders, who are predominantly young people, the programme seeks to preduce the cost of fuel in the wake of the recent petroleum subsidy removal.

By shifting to CNG-powered motorcycles, operators are expected to spend only 20% of what they currently pay for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), leading to substantial cost savings.

This move is anticipated to not only mitigate the financial strain of fuel expenses but also improve the incomes of youth engaged in this critical sector of the economy.

The CNG Motorcycle Empowerment Programme underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the youth and ensuring they have sustainable avenues to earn a living despite economic challenges.

As the launch date approaches, the Ministry is ramping up efforts to ensure the success of this initiative, which is expected to enhance the livelihood of many informal workers across the country.
