Russia to Declare Ceasefire from May 8–10 to Mark Victory Day Holiday

The Kremlin has stated that a ceasefire will be declared in Ukraine from May 8 to May 10 to mark 80th anniversary of Russia’s Victory Day.

Kremlin announced this in a statement on Monday.

“By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, Vladimir Putin, and on humanitarian grounds, in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, Russia will declare a ceasefire from midnight on May 7–8 until midnight of May 10–11. All combat operations will be suspended during this period. Russia believes the Ukrainian side should follow this example.”

It added that if the Ukrainian side violates the ceasefire, Russian forces will deliver an “appropriate and effective response.”
