Atiku Condemns EFCC’s Questioning of Tambuwal, Alleges Political Motives

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its ongoing interrogation of Sen. Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto State governor, calling it a deliberate move to undermine the opposition.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Atiku suggested that Tambuwal’s questioning stems from his affiliation with the opposition coalition. He further alleged that the EFCC’s probe, centered on claims of misappropriating N189 billion during Tambuwal’s tenure as governor, is a tactic to pressure him into joining the ruling party.

According to him, the EFCC he worked to established when he was Vice President of the country has missed its objective.

“That, certainly, is not how to fight the monster of corruption. Indeed, such tendencies provide the stimulant for corruption to thrive.

“The genuine fight against corruption is a matter that required the total support of all Nigerians, the objectification of it as a political agenda should be condemned by all stakeholders,” he said.
