Demonstrations Erupt in Abuja Over Police Pay, Pension Issues

Protests broke out in Abuja as retired Nigeria Police officers demanded improved salaries and better working conditions.

Sparked by a widely circulated video of a retired Superintendent of Police decrying a meager N3 million retirement benefit after 35 years of service, demonstrators called for the Nigeria Police to be removed from the contributory pension scheme.

Led by activist Omoyele Sowore, the group, including retired officers, marched from the Louis Edet Force Headquarters to the National Assembly gate to voice their grievances.

The retirees highlighted their inadequate pension payouts and urged the creation of a dedicated Police Pension Board to replace the existing contributory system.
