DSS Grants NLC President, Ajaero Administrative Bail

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero has been granted administrative bail by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ajaero was arrested on Monday by operatives of the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport while on his way to the United Kingdom.

His release was announced in a tweet on Monday night by Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress.

The NLC in a statement  issued on Monday condemned the arrest describing it as “a brazen act of intimidation,” adding that it is completely unjustified under the laws of Nigeria.

“The NLC remains resolute in its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and will not be cowed by the oppressive tactics of the state.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Ajaero and  cessation of all forms of harassment against labour leaders and the Nigerian working class, including innocent.

“His detention is a brazen act of intimidation and completely unjustified under the laws of our nation,” the statement added.
