Rivers State: Police Confirm Explosion at Trans-Niger Pipeline

An explosion at the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State has been confirmed by the state police command.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s Spokesperson, made the confirmation in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
She said that details of the explosion were still sketchy, and assured that further information would be provided as investigations progressed.
The explosion, which occurred on Monday midnight, damaged the pipeline transporting crude to the Bonny Terminal, a key crude oil export facility.
The Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP), previously owned by Shell Petroleum Development Company and later acquired by Aiteo Group, has a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion affected a critical section of the pipeline, though the cause remains uncertain.
This incident occurs amid rising political tensions in Rivers State, following the House of Assembly’s notice of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
