The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that the man captured in a viral video being rough-handled by officers was arrested for alleged illegal drug possession, not because of his dreadlocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The command\u2019s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known on Monday via a post on his X handle, @BenHundeyin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the video, which began trending on social media, a voice could be heard claiming that the man was apprehended and assaulted for having dreadlocks and looking like a fraudster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to the video, Hundeyin dismissed the claim as false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe narrative is false, misleading, and malicious,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspect was arrested at Bassey Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos State based on complaints from residents about the activities of young men abusing and selling drugs openly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe police responded and the young man was indeed caught with hard drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
